Sheridan Township Planning Commission

Public Hearing – Master Plan Workshop

May 9, 2024 – 7:04pm

 

Purpose:  Master Plan Workshop - Notices were published in The Recorder* and on the Township website.

 

Present:  Harold Badger (chair), Scott Frederick, Sally Jackson, Peggy Vogt, Rick Offerson

 

Officials and Staff:  David Martin, (Zoning Administrator), Doug Lewan from Carlisle-Wortman Associates (via Zoom)

 

Guests:  Dave Blodgett, Kristin Kortung, Don Goble (see attached list)

 

The public hearing was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.

 

Agenda: A motion was made by Vogt; seconded by Jackson, to approve the agenda as presented.  Motion passed unanimously.

 

Minutes: A motion was made by Vogt; seconded by Frederick, to approve the minutes of the April 11, 2024, meeting. Motion passed unanimously.

 

Public Comments: Mr. Blodgett was questioning the Planning Commission about what may be going on with the properties across 29 Mile Rd. from his residence. He was made aware of purchase offers by an attorney representing a group, to the homeowners on the west side that butt up against PA425 properties. He and the other guests are concerned about the future and development that may occur and are trying to stay abreast of the situation.

Correspondence: A pamphlet was received from the Michigan Township Association with information about upcoming classes on the ABCs of ZBAs.

 

Reports: Township Board – Frederick reported that the Board continues to work on the policy manual. 

Zoning Administrator – (1) Martin reported that he continues dealing with blight issues on 24 Mile Road near F Drive N and will be in court next week to address the problem. (2) He has been reviewing the PA425 maps with the assessor. (3) He has been approached by Pivot Energy about plans for a 5MW solar energy field on the west side of H Drive N. between 26 & 27 Mile Roads.

Zoning Board of Appeals – Badger stated there is a ZBA meeting scheduled for 05/30/2024

 

New Business: Workshop on Master Plan continues

 

Unfinished Business: Doug Lewan of Carlisle-Wortman Associates went over the proposed updates to the Master Plan from 2014. Discussion included the new maps and updated tables, solar policy, still needed are current photos of solar energy fields, farming, fire apparatus, and the township hall. The next step is to review the updated maps, tables, and drafts. Discussion centered around an action plan to address the Township’s commitment to sustainable energy. Minor edit requests were provided by Vogt and photos are to be provided by Martin.  Once the drafts are reviewed and approved by the Planning Commission at our 06/06/2024 meeting the Master Plan will be submitted to the Township Board for approval and distribution.
